matrix was implemented to support fanning out a pipelineTask in a pipeline in 0.38 as an alpha feature. This feature request is created to keep track of work items and any outstanding issues before matrix can be promoted to beta.

• Matrix Beta #5265 has a list of potential features which can be implemented before promoting matrix to beta. As part of this issue, we would like to decide which all features must be part of this promotion and implement them.
