dtparam=act_led_trigger=heartbeat doesn't work

I added
dtparam=act_led_trigger=heartbeat
to config.txt but this seems to have no effect.

If I run the following it works
echo heartbeat | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/led0/trigger

Which model are you using?

I installed on a Pi3B+ but tried a copy on a Pi4B 2GB with similar results.

It's working for me on a 3B+ and 4B running the latest rpi-update kernel. As far as I know, nothing has changed in this area, so I'm suspecting that there's a typo or conditional filter problem in your config.txt.

What does "sudo vcdbg log msg" report?
