quarkus create hangs on 'Looking for the newly published extensions in registry.quarkus.io'

struggling on running

quarkus create app

this command works from mac well, but fails from linux. same java version used on same network

with --verbose hangs on

I wonder if we should have some kind of timeout in this operation and simply proceed without the newer extensions if the timeout is triggered

Maybe do a kill -3 of the process to dump the thead stack?

Are you supposed to use a proxy by any chance?
