App should show welcome screen if it fails to open project directory #975

On first running the PathPlanner app, it did not display the starting screen with the "Open Robot Project" button. Instead, it displayed a dialog box with text "Uncaught Exception" and details about how it failed to open "/Users/deploy".

I worked around the problem by creating /Users/deploy (owned by me with full access). At that point PathPlanner worked fine but showed "Users" as the project name. Once I configured the actual robot project, I deleted /Users/deploy with no ill effect. PathPlanner continues working as expected.

Versions: (please complete the following information):

  • OS Version: MacOS 15.1 (Intel)
  • GUI Version: 2025.1.1 (1278)

Additional context
I had previously run PathPlanner from last year, and replaced the app with the latest version.
