Delayed processing of URI's

Has anyone handled this issue? I have a file already at S3. I want to attach it to a paperclip model but I want the download to happen in the background. I've poked at various methods of creating a fake attachment but nothing seems to be clean or working. Any known solutions to this?

abandoned this gem. we are using cloudinary and attachinary now.
