Normally I would say that this much code cleanup not done by VS autoformat needs a dedicated PR. However, since there are no other known PRs in the works, this is fine and shouldn't cause any conflicts. Since CI isn't set up here yet, I'll need to pull this down manually and test that everything works. |

Everything builds okay. @richardschneider created extensive unit tests, which are currently failing with 0.0.13 and can be updated over time.
