Android app access to albums/folders restricted through bad android permissions

The bug

Issue:

• After an update of server side and the app, the app no longer has access to all my folders on my phone (motorola edge 20 pro)
• When looking into the available albums trough the Immich app backup/sync functionality the following is shown:

• While initially I could see all folders, now the folder I whish to syncronise is no longer available (e.g. 'camera')
• Al the while I remember having seen all folders which could be selected to be synchronized
• When I checked out the permissions for the android Immich app I found the following:

• What stood out whas that the app only has access to the last 24 hours of photo's / video's
• While googling I could not find an solution to change this, therefore I created this issue.

Additional information:

• Reïnstall of the app did not fix the issue
• Reboot of server did not have impact
• Android 13
• Current experience, since start of january 2025.

This seems like something your OS is enforcing; I doubt there's much we can do about it.

I hesitate to agree on that (but of course I have limited knowledge of the internal workings), due to me having the proper functionality in an earlier version of the app. (But I have not yet tested this).
Does someone have a preference with what older version of the app I shall test this?

@zsert3 Where are the app's other albums from? Are they from the SD card or the native gallery?

@alextran1502 they are from the native gallery, but I only see pictures from the last 24 hours. I do not have an SD card in my phone. Also there has not been any Android updates in this month.

(Ps. While in an earlier app version I had access to the complete native gallery. (I know this because the native gallery 'camara', was being backed up, but now this no longer works))

@zsert3, That is odd, can you try reinstall the app, and don't modify anything in the Advanced Settings of the app? then after opening the album selector page, can you get me the mobile app log?

• set logging to finest
• removd the app
• reinstall the app
• enter server address
• login with admin account
• open up the backup icon to see available albums
• grant permissions first

• exit window to go to the user icon
• extract the logs

If you wish I could add the log but then on the finest detail level?

I don't see anything alarming in the log, it shows there are three discoverable albums. Do you mind rebooting your phone?

What I find difficult to understand is that immich cannot find the 'camera' or 'DCIM' folder.
However when I take a picture, the 'camera' folder shows up, but with only the picture just taken.
What I wish to do is to backup my entire 'camera' folder.

Yeah I am not quite sure why this behavior happens to this phone model. We use the same permission model for all Android and I haven't seen similar report

• reinstall server side + app and see what the result is.

Do you have advice about doing this? (or if this would even help you?)
