bug(mobile): Immich doesn't respect file datetime of images outside default gallery folder

The bug

I've migrated to a new android phone using Samsung SmartSwith. All images were successfuly transfered to a new phone, however Immich shows all images outside default /DCIM/Camera folder under a single date bucket of the current date. Those are from /DCIM/Screenshots, /Pictures, /Snapseed, etc.
Backup is disabled, and backup album selected to Recent.

I don't think it's caused by file content, but attributes, probably file creation date in the filesystem.
I can reproduce this issue, I've deleted all app data and set it up again and those images appear in the same date bucket (yesterday).
The next thing is why those are shown anyway? I thought that only assets from selected backup folders should be shown. Wasn't the behaviour changed recently?

My gut feeling:

Before the files are uploaded (so that the server can do some magic), just the file metadata (creation date) is available and shown. As such, it might help to upload the files so that Immich can properly deal with them.

I think I'm hitting this issue. Asked on Discord, but will paste here because I think it is relevant:

Whenever I upload photos through the Android app, even if the photo was taken 1 month ago and the exif data correctly shows "created" one month ago, and my Android phone gallery shows it in the correct date, on immich it appears in the timeline at the upload date.

For example, if I upload a photo today from 10th of Februrary, in immich, the timeline will show it on 19th of March.

I have tried to check the metadata here https://jimpl.com/results/SXY6bhcEwC8EU2BRRvKrMajK?target=exif and you can see it clearly shows 10th of February. And when I upload it through the immich web, from the computer, it correctly sets the date to 10th of February!

I have attached a sample photo, which I copied from my phone to my pc with a usb cable.

And just to clarify, my process for uploading to Immich from the phone is the following:

1. Take photo
2. Select photo on gallery
3. Add photo to album (album I use to sync with immich)
4. Go to immich app and select backup (top right)
5. Start backup

Copying the photos to pc and then uploading through the web app works though.

This is still an issue.

When browsing photos from local albums, the date Immich sorts by is the "Date changed", which is the date the file was written to the disk.

Xiaomi Gallery sorts the very same file by "Date modified" which is when the photo was taken.

Can you try if this issue is still reproducible after this patch gets included in the next release?

If this affects your already uploaded photos, you might want to rerun the metadata extraction job.
