Description
Motivation
In certain reactor component meshing applications, it is necessary to generate a mesh for a component whose surface conforms to the external surface of another component, separated by a gap of uniform thickness. For example, the core restraint system in a sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) consists of structural rings positioned with a uniform gap relative to the core components (assemblies). Currently, meshing such gap geometries is not supported.
Design
To address this, a 2D gap mesh generator will be developed to produce a poly-line mesh that defines a polygon forming a conformal gap of uniform thickness, based on the external boundary of a given 2D mesh in the XY-plane. The input 2D mesh must be a connected mesh in XY-plane with only one outer boundary manifold.
Impact
Enhanced meshing capabilities for reactor components.
