index.html for update site is obsolete

is using very old xslt APIS.

Here a more modern example, we could use as a starting point

Do other plugin repos offer an example of what we could use instead, rather than building our own?

I looked at just this one: http://sdbg.github.io/p2/
There is an hand made index.html and no site.xml at all.
site.xml is a legacy format, if I get it right.
So we could:

• remove the site.xml file
• write a small index.html with installation instructions
