Why is HybridCache Still in Preview After .NET 9 Release?

.NET 9 is now generally available as of November 12, 2024 (source: GitHub Release Notes). One of the new features in .NET 9 is HybridCache, a library that combines the best of both caching approaches.

However, when I refer to the documentation at this URL: HybridCache Documentation, I still see a note stating: "HybridCache is currently still in preview but will be fully released after .NET 9.0 in a future minor release of .NET Extensions."

Can anyone provide more details on why HybridCache is still in preview mode despite the general availability of .NET 9? Any insights or additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps they want to fix some of the https://github.com/dotnet/extensions/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20label%3Aarea-caching-hybrid issues first. Especially dotnet/extensions#5624.

It would be good to get an idea of when this is going to become GA because at the moment to use it we have to wrap AddHybridCache() with 'pragma warning disable EXTEXP0018', which obviously implies that it is incomplete in some way. I have assumed that you are applying edge-case fixes of some kind (but not fundamentally changing its configuration) but I could be wrong?

Given it was a used as a selling point of .Net 9, it feels like this should either be completed soon or there should be more information as to how safe this is to use in it's current state and when to expect it (.Net 10??).

Based on the latest updates looks like Hybrid Cache is GA now : https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/hybrid-cache-is-now-ga/ but if you visit the documentation it still shows that it is in Preview : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/performance/caching/hybrid?view=aspnetcore-9.0
