Show windows from every workspaces while using Jump

I discovered the sway fork and find it quite interesting and could adopt it but i found somethin quite odd.

There are multiple jump options but no way to show every windows from every workspaces.
The "jump tiling" only shows windows from currently visible workspaces.

Instead of displaying one row with all the windows, it could display each workspace on a different row.

This feature is really great and i'd love to be able to find this lost window i don't remember where i put it.

This would only work if you have very few windows or, like you mention, only use rows. As soon as you have many windows on every workspace, and some of the rows also have columns, it would be impossible to fit all of them in a single monitor. Imagine an overview mode multiplied by 10 workspaces, everything would be too small to make any sense. That is why there is overview, and several jump modes, including workspaces.

To find a lost window, you will need to first use jump workspace, and then the regular jump modes. Or you can mark your important windows with a trailmark, and then use trailmark jump. This will create a jump mode where all the windows in that trail will be shown, regardless of which workspace they belong to. Maybe this is what would work best for your workflow.

I never use more than 4 workspaces by output so… it should more or less work.

As a workaround maybe i could add trailmarks to every window and then trailmark jump.
Is there a way to do it automatically ?

I understand, the problem is I would need to create something that works for every use case. Some people only open a few windows, others only use a few workspaces. Showing every window on a monitor would be too crammed for the general case, and also not very efficient with respect to the number of keys you would need to press to get to the one you choose.

But if you want to have every window shown, you can automatically add a trailmark to every window you create adding this window rule to your config:

for_window [all] trailmark toggle

And then call trailmark jump to show and jump to any of them.

That's exactly what i wanted !

Now i encounter strange bug even leading to a crash.
If i use the bindsym to "trailmark jump" i can't select any window. When i press the letters it doesn't do anything
I have to press esc to exit it and windows will change and go "between" workspaces (a bit on monitor 1 and 2).

If i launch "scrollmsg trailmark jump" it works but it keeps sending newlines on the terminal. I recorded it.

Maybe i should open another issue and we could close this one ?

How do you set your key binding?

Jump captures the keyboard, so for any jump command you need to use --no-repeat for the key binding, or it will enter an infinite loop. Check the example config for the default key bindings when in doubt, and adapt from there.

For example, if you wanted $mod+slash to call trailmark jump, you would set your binding like this:

bindsym --no-repeat $mod+slash trailmark jump
