"Failed to create replacing dead member event" due to namespace

2 of the 5 nodes in my Etcd cluster have died and not been replaced by etcd-operator. If I examine the logs, I can see:
failed to create replacing dead member event: the namespace of the provided object does not match the namespace sent on the request

The etcd-operator is running in the "default" namespace while the Etcd cluster is running in a different namespace.
