[question] Integrating Conan into Eclipse IDE on Linux platform

Hi, can any kind soul able to share on how to use Conan on Eclipse ide on Linux? I am trying to do it but there is no documenation on it unlike Microsoft Visual studio ide on Windows platform

Thanks for your question.

There is no built-in generator for Eclipse in Conan at this moment, and it is not planned either, because not enough market.

The best approach would be to use Cmake, and generate Eclipse project, aren't you using CMake?

It is always possible to extend Conan with the "custom generators" and implement your own generator for Eclipse, see: https://docs.conan.io/2/reference/extensions/custom_generators.html

gcc is modeled in the default settings, and supported as the main compiler in Linux platforms. ConanCenter uses gcc massively for all binaries for Linux (also clang, but the main one is gcc)

Would you be able to explain more on how to use Conan on Eclipse Ide on Windows platform using Gcc complier? Perhaps maybe you can point me the resources needed to configure that

It is not clear what you mean. If you are using CMake with gcc, and then using Eclipse IDE with the CMake eclipse generator, that's it. Conan is not involved at all, that is a thing exclusively between build-system (CMake) <-> compiler (gcc) <-> IDE (Eclipse).

What Conan does is to generate files for CMake to find the dependencies, but that is not coupled to the compiler or to Eclipse IDE.

Sorry, but I am afraid those questions don't make much sense.

Conan is not connected or integrated with Eclipse.
If your Eclipse project is generated via CMake, then, the Conan Cmake integrations will be good, no need to do anything special.
If your Eclipse project is a native Eclipse project, then there is no integration. You would need to develop your own integration.

The fact that the compiler is gcc or msvc or clang or any other compiler is irrelevant here, it is not connected.

If you are not familiar with Eclipse, my recommendation would be to forget about it. Use cmake, the command line and VS code as an editor for your C++ and CMakeLists.txt files, but always building from the command line via cmake commands.
