Not recognising sub-layer changes

Yabai is not recognising changes to sub-layer. Manually setting window layers through commands to above or below works but it will still show as 'normal' when queried. I've tried reinstalling (both normal and dev versions) and redisabling SIP. Everything else works okay such as animations, creating/destroying spaces etc.
