Space switching suddenly very slow

I made a new user on my macbook, went through the install steps to get yabai and skhd working for that account too. Ended up also installing yabaiindicator (was buggy, so I uninstalled), and now that I've switched back to my main account, space switching was no longer working entirely. Something about the scripting addition problem. I uninstalled Yabai and redid the setup steps, which did fix the space switching again. But now, it is quite slow (like half a second).

I already have SIP disabled. What is causing this?

Update: I've discovered it's a problem with skhd's speed in executing the commands, due to my shell being fish instead of bash/zsh. Changing it back to zsh via chsh -s /bin/zsh solves the sluggish speed, although it sounded possible to make only skhd use zsh internally while still using fish in my emulators. In particular, it is Oh My Fish being installed that seems to make skhd so slow. Removing Oh My Fish makes fish usable as the shell.
