On Mac, the pre-installed version of Python is 3.9.

I also have Python 3.13, which I use with Terminal.

It is at the root of my path, but ytD still searches for the integrated version.

How can I make ytD recognize it?

The issue appears to be that GUI applications on macOS don't inherit the terminal's PATH environment. While pyenv and all Python configurations work perfectly in terminal:

Terminal PATH includes pyenv shims first: /Users/ciux/.pyenv/shims/python3 → Python 3.13.7 ✅
GUI apps use minimal system PATH: likely only /usr/bin/python3 → Python 3.9.6 ❌

ytDownloader binary appears to call python3 without absolute path, relying on PATH resolution.

Thanks for the detailed info. ytDownloader used yt-dlp and I can't find any info about specifying python path.
Try setting global environment variables with launchctl. I will try to look for more info

I think the best approach here would be to make mac users download yt-dlp with homebrew, then it will not require any python. Then use that yt-dlp in ytDownloader

Thanks for the explanation! I installed yt-dlp via Homebrew:

$ brew install yt-dlp
$ which yt-dlp
/opt/homebrew/bin/yt-dlp
$ yt-dlp --version
yt-dlp 2024.08.06

However, ytDownloader still shows the Python 3.9 deprecation error when launched from GUI. It seems ytDownloader doesn't automatically detect/use the Homebrew yt-dlp yet.
Is this feature planned for a future update? Or is there a configuration file where I can specify the yt-dlp path manually?
