Sometime this morning, issue #10000 landed. GitHub numbers issues and pull
requests in one shared sequence, so that's really a single odometer: 10,000 things this community has brought to this project in 398 days.
So we pulled the whole history โ every issue, every PR, every release, every
star โ and actually read it. Here's what we found: the good, the great, and one
number we seriously considered hiding.

That averages 25.1 per day. Sounds steady? Don't be fooled โ the average is the
most misleading number in this report: it flattens a 109-day crawl and a 12-day

Stars never had a second viral moment: +6,127 in the first month, then a steady
1,000+ every month, peaking at +2,770 in 2026-04 โ the very month issue volume
took off.

Two 110-day stretches, and then the curve goes one way only: down. The first thousand took 109 days. The last one took 12.
And no, headcount doesn't explain it โ monthly active committers grew from 19

joined the number pool in 2026-06.
๐ Output vs. digestion
Issues opened against PRs merged, on one scale (2026-08 is partial, days 1โ25):
The crossover is 2026-05: merged PRs passed new issues for the first time โ
and never looked back. The project stopped being driven by its inbox and started
being driven by its own roadmap.
๐งฌ It stopped being the same product
Line up the 4,386 merged PRs by when each conventional-commit scope first
landed, and you can watch the product's boundary grow. The wildest part: eight
scopes had exactly zero PRs before 2026-03, and 900+ after โ web-shell, serve, daemon, channels, desktop, autofix, telemetry, triage.
On new fronts, 2026-05 was the wildest month of the run: serve, daemon, desktop and web-shell all shipped inside it. web-shell alone grew into the
third-largest scope of all time โ 375 PRs.
๐ค The tool is writing itself
Of the 7,811 commits in the last 52 weeks, 27.3% came from AI agent and bot
accounts (qwencoder 1,061, qwen-code-dev-bot 477, claude 383, qwen-code-ci-bot 215). Yes, the tool is literally writing itself.
Flip to merged pull requests, though, and bot authors drop to 3.9%
(171 of 4,386).
The gap is the point: agents write a lot of commits, but almost always inside a pull request a human signs for. The code is written by machines; the name โ
and the accountability โ stays human. We think that's the right boundary, for now.
๐ฅ Who writes, who reports
253 people had a PR merged; 1,662 people filed issues. They are almost disjoint groups.
What they filed: 2,139 bugs ยท 963 feature requests ยท 62 questions ยท 39 support ยท 34 docs (the rest unclassified). Almost a quarter are feature requests โ users don't just come to complain; they come asking for more.

Now the other end: 139 of 253 contributors (55%) have exactly one merged PR.
That's the classic core-team-plus-long-tail shape. Healthy โ and a reminder that
on the core side, every single person is load-bearing.
353 (39%) are older than 90 days; 140 are older than 180
In August we opened 615 issues and closed 350 โ the gap is widening
Throughput went up; triage did not keep pace. That is the thing to fix next
quarter, and we would rather say it here than leave it out of the chart.
๐ Thank you
To the 1,662 people who filed an issue: most of you never sent a PR, and
you're still the reason 2,139 bugs got labelled and 2,758 issues were closed as
completed โ every one of them started because you spoke up.
To the 139 people whose only merged PR is a single fix: you're 55% of all
contributors, and the healthiest number in this report. The first PR is the
hardest โ you already have one.
And to the most active committers of the last 52 weeks (by commits, core
maintainers included): wenshao, yiliang114, tanzhenxin, doudouOUC, LaZzyMan, Mingholy, NTaylorMullen, qqqys, jacob314, DennisYu07.
If you'd rather contribute code than words: start at CONTRIBUTING.md,
add a reproduction to a status/needs-triage issue,
or pick up a type/feature-request you care about โ the next thousand numbers will come even
faster than these did.
Data: full GitHub REST pull of issues / pulls / releases / stargazers / contributor stats,
plus the npm downloads API. Snapshot 2026-08-25 09:00 UTC. 9,673 of the 10,000 numbers are readable (327 deleted or
transferred, 3.3%). 2026-08 covers days 1โ25 only. Bot-authored PRs are counted in the
totals and broken out separately above.

๐ค The tool is writing itself
Of the 7,811 commits in the last 52 weeks, 27.3% came from AI agent and bot
accounts (
qwencoder1,061,qwen-code-dev-bot477,claude383,qwen-code-ci-bot215). Yes, the tool is literally writing itself.Flip to merged pull requests, though, and bot authors drop to 3.9%
(171 of 4,386).
The gap is the point: agents write a lot of commits, but almost always inside a
pull request a human signs for.
Monthly active committers (people with a PR merged that month):
Cumulative share of merged PRs, contributors sorted by volume:
Now the other end: 139 of 253 contributors (55%) have exactly one merged PR.
That's the classic core-team-plus-long-tail shape. Healthy โ and a reminder that
on the core side, every single person is load-bearing.
896 open issues โ an all-time high.
That is 48% above the 2026-06 low. Of them:
status/needs-triageThroughput went up; triage did not keep pace.
And to the most active committers of the last 52 weeks (by commits, core
maintainers included):

We'll fold the answers into the next roadmap.
If you'd rather contribute code than words: start at
CONTRIBUTING.md,
add a reproduction to a
status/needs-triageissue,or pick up a
type/feature-requestyou care about โ the next thousand numbers will come evenfaster than these did.
