[Question]: Issue building for MacCatalyst out of nowhere

Failed to build module 'OneSignalFramework'; this SDK is not supported by the compiler (the SDK is built with 'Apple Swift version 6.0.2 effective-5.10 (swiftlang-6.0.2.1.2 clang-1600.0.26.4)', while this compiler is 'Apple Swift version 6.1.2 effective-5.10 (swiftlang-6.1.2.1.2 clang-1700.0.13.5)'). Please select a toolchain which matches the SDK.

I just got this error while building my MacCatalyst target, while my iOS one builds without problems. I didn't change any settings regarding the Swift version and both my targets are still using version 5. Two days ago it was working and not won't compile anymore. Any help?

Hi @valeriolg thanks for reaching out. What version of the OneSignal SDK are you using?

Did anything happen before this build issue started appearing? For example:

• You changed the device you are testing on
• Xcode version changed
• You upgraded the OneSignal SDK
• etc

Also are you using Cocoapods or Swift Package Manager?

Hi @nan-li, thank you for your answer. Nothing in particular happened for my project.

• the Mac is the same. I just re-installed macOS from scratch.
• Xcode version is the same, 16.4
• OneSignal SDK is 5.2.14 and from what I've seen was released 3 weeks ago or so, and I definitely made builds for MacCatalyst during this past weeks from what I remember.
• I use Swift Package Manager

Hi @valeriolg, I am not sure there is anything I can do on my end. I have looked up this error and the SDK creator must set BUILD_LIBRARY_FOR_DISTRIBUTION = YES but this flag is already set.

Did you try removing the SDK dependency, removing Derived Data, doing a Product > Clean Build Folder, and then re-adding the SDK? I wonder if the reinstall of macOS affected anything. I have found that sometimes error messages are not accurate to the underlying real issue.

@nan-li Hi, I've just tried that and it didn't solve the problem... the other targets work just fine, just the one for MacCatalyst I cannot compile it anymore. Not sure what to do.

Ok, I will try to reproduce this on xcode 16.4

Hi @valeriolg I downloaded xcode 16.4 and was able to build and ran an example app on my Mac Catalyst machine. I am not able to reproduce this error yet.

@nan-li Hi, did you check the swiftlang version in your toolchain? maybe for you it matches.

Target: x86_64-apple-macosx15.0

I'm running on a macOS 15.4.1 machine. What version are you using?

@valeriolg I don't have a Apple Silicon mac to test on.

We can try to narrow the issue down. Can you create a new minimal project and just import OneSignal dependencies? Does this encounter the same error?

@nan-li I've tried and I created a new project, I added MacCatalyst to supported devices and it doesn't work either. But I receive another error this time. The app builds, but then I get right away a crash with the following:
