Winston looks very capable already, I am impressed.

1. Will x11(p) be implemented before 1.0? It would be easy to underestimate it given the lack of screen output.
2. The first example shows this
   setattr(p, "xlabel", L"$\Sigma x^2_i$")
   but in my tests you want to leave out the $ symbols.
3. Example 4 renders without tick marks
4. Example 5 renders without tick labels

1. Don't know. A few days ago i would have said yes, but my RSI is flaring up, so i'm taking a forced holiday from coding.
2. Correct. I recently changed this.

3 & 4. Yes, this is a known bug.

Yes, sorry to hear about the RSI.
As I've said, X11 output is not urgent. Not sure about this, but it's possible that opening a window starts to make it seem (psychologically) like an inferior gui rather than a great plotting package.

Regarding the L"$\Sigma x^2_i$" business, you can easily define a custom string macro that handles LaTeX string values nicely, producing any kind of object you want, including a string. Not sure if that's helpful.
