Ned Prescott is a professor at a university. He supervises several students, notably Brad Chipendal. He is a clinical psychologist who researches early moral development in adolescents.
He is collaborating with his colleague Katherine Armsfield at Desert University to conduct interviews to gather survey data about the early development of adolescents' moral beliefs.
Having to deal with the bureaucracy of higher education, Ned often feels tired out by matters that he cannot control. However, he is determined to get things done in a timely manner. He looks out for Brad despite the latter's procrastinatory habits.
As an experienced academic, Ned is calm and articulate. While he can get frustrated by workplace matters, Ned looks out for the good of his students and colleagues. He tends to be matter-of-fact and direct. He uses lots of excuses (to himself as well). He also seems to call the IRB something like 'erb' or 'herb' leading to much confusion.
Ned is a tall, thin, middle-aged white man. He has thinning short brown hair and a thick mustache. He wears a long-sleeved white collared shirt layered with a beige sweater vest.
Brad Chipendal is a graduate student who is being advised by Ned Prescott. His current project is researching moral development in adolescents. He is tasked with conducting interviews for Ned in order to gain experience, but is encountering delays from the IRB.
Although quick to crack a joke, Brad mostly keeps to himself until he has something to say. He is rather laid-back to a fault, as he is a chronic procrastinator and puts off doing his tasks. However, he is eager and passionate about his own research project. This can lead to him making rash decisions so that he can finish his assigned task by Ned in a timely manner. He is aware of IRB protocols, but he sees them as red tape that is getting in the way of his research. Brad is also incredibly talented with the hacky-sack. Due to his lack of research experience, he can be naive when it comes to protocol and has trouble seeing the larger implications of his actions at times.
As a reflection of his personality, Brad usually refrains from speaking unless prompted to do so. He often trips over his words and can be prone to tangents when under pressure. He can also come off as over-confident when he thinks he is knowledgeable about the subject matter at hand.
Brad is lanky, white, male grad student in his mid-20s. He sports blue glasses paired with his short, unkempt ginger hair, and is usually seen wearing the polo shirt + cargo shorts combo.
