Description
Section 5.4 seems a bit unfair. It implies that Microsoft doesn't like virtual machines, and doesn't like anything that doesn't run on Windows. Both could be further from the truth.
- Microsoft's virtual machine offerings include HyperV and Windows Azure VMs, both of which are supported in running non-Windows operating systems.
- Microsoft's Azure environment explicitly embraces Linux. See Linux and Open-Source Computing on Azure, and Microsoft Loves Linux
- Microsoft has been producing Office for Macintosh, since Word for Mac debuted in 1984, and now has full versions of Office that run on OSX, iOS and Android.
- Microsoft's new open-source version of the .NET Framework runs on Linux and OSX.
I could go on all day. The sentiment expressed in section 5.4 is outdated and should be revised or removed.
Thanks.
