Emulate Installed Device?

I've had to pack up the Tub for a bit and annoyingly the pump is at the back of the shed now...

I have an ESP8266 (not the V2 PCB) that I've been using for development of my app but since it isn't in the pump I can't test sending commands. Well I can send commands but nothing happens obviously.

Is there a way to emulate it being installed? So that I can test sending commands and getting feedback as if it is installed?

I have no simulator. Been thinking about it but never made it. In principle the esp module is already a simulator so perhaps you can join two units?
