The syntax looks similar to YAML. Are the benefits still there when compared with YAML?

Yes! TOON = YAML's readability + LLM guardrails: explicit [N] lengths, field headers, and delimiter awareness. That trims tokens and reduces parsing errors. Big wins on uniform tabular data. For messy/deep nesting, YAML/JSON can still be a better fit.
