We use text-shadow in some of our graphs and tables. Its particularly useful to make text pop when the background is a little busy, eg a photo. Believe it or not but we use some plots with transparent background in front of live video.

@tshead2 - Unfortunately I can't give you a live demo url, but here are 2 screenshots. The background image can pan, or be an HD video. The business who uses this one puts it up on flat screen televisions around the office.

You can see how the text-shadow just makes the text stand out a bit more to remain legible. I actually noticed that's how google does their text on the chromecast overlay text.

All the text and graphs are rendered in toyplot. Those are progress bars on the right, which are just 2 bar charts embedded in the 3rd column of the table.

The names and numbers are just made up, so happy for these examples to be public domain.

@johanndt - Many thanks for taking the time to generate these examples - it's a use for Toyplot that I wouldn't have anticipated!
