Approved for GitHub Education, but benefits still not active after 3+ days

My GitHub Education application was approved, and I see the message: “Congrats, your request has been approved and your benefits will be available soon!”

It has now been a little over 3 days, but my student benefits still haven’t been activated. I’ve checked the GitHub Education section under Billing and plans, and I don’t yet see the benefits applied to my account.

Could someone from the GitHub Education team please help check if there is a delay or sync issue with my account, and let me know if anything is needed from my side to complete the activation?

The delay is usually normal and can be resolved quickly. Common reasons:

Data synchronization delay

Sometimes it takes 3–5 business days after approval for benefits to appear.

Student verification

Make sure your school/college email is verified on your GitHub account.

What to do now:

Wait another 1–2 days; often the benefits activate automatically.

If it’s still not active after 5 business days, contact GitHub Education support directly:

Include your username, approval date, and the message you received.

Note: Most of the time this is just a temporary delay, not an issue with your account.
