Reconsideration Request – GitHub Teacher Application Declined in Error

Dear GitHub Education Team,

I recently applied for the GitHub Teacher benefits program and received the following response:

"We're sorry, but the institution you selected is ineligible to receive academic benefits. If your school isn't a degree or diploma granting course of study then we would recommend informal schools to apply first to the GitHub Campus program."

I would like to respectfully clarify the following points:

🏫 About My Institution and Identity

• I am a full-time, certified primary school teacher in mainland China.
• My school is a public, government-recognized elementary school that provides compulsory education and issues official graduation certificates under national education policy.
• In China, primary and secondary schools do not issue .edu emails to staff. However, I have uploaded my official Teacher Qualification Certificate and verified employment proof via social security documentation in my application.

🧑‍🏫 My Usage of GitHub & Copilot in Education

I am actively using GitHub and GitHub Copilot (with ChatGPT) to design and deliver digital teaching tools for my students in math and science education. Some of my current projects include:

• HTML Teaching Tools – An educational toolkit written in HTML/CSS/JS.

  • Probability Simulator – Built with Trae and ChatGPT, allowing students to simulate coin tosses and dice rolls with statistical chart generation.
  • "Move the Window" – A window manipulation demo tool that lets students understand geometry and animation.
  • "Counting Ducks" – A playful number visualization tool for lower grades.

These tools are actively used in classroom instruction to engage students with interactive content. GitHub and Copilot have played an essential role in helping me rapidly prototype and develop these ideas, especially since Trae’s server-side compilation has become extremely slow and I don’t want to switch IDEs just to circumvent that issue.

• A reconsideration of my application for GitHub Teacher benefits, acknowledging my role as a certified educator in formal education.
• Or, guidance on how a public elementary school teacher may apply through alternative means, as I do not represent an informal institution or coding bootcamp.
