You seem to have a billing issue. Please adjust your billing settings to continue using codespaces. #155243

Hi @srishtigupta2002 ! Since you have a GitHub Student account, you get free usage each month (likely 180 core hours and 20 GB of storage with the Student Developer Pack). The message you're seeing probably means you've hit that free limit. Steps to Resolve1. Check Your Usage
2. Fix the Limit
3. Get Back to Work
Let me know if you need more help! |

The same issue here. I had $0.05 in account usage last month, which was discounted. I have no outstanding payments but can't create Codespaces anymore. |

Hi! This billing message usually means you've reached your free usage limits for Codespaces included with the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Here’s what you can do to fix it:
Go to your GitHub profile > Settings > Billing and plans. Look at your Codespaces usage (compute hours and storage). Student accounts typically get 180 core hours and 20GB storage free each month. If you’ve used all of that, Codespaces will stop working until the next month or until you adjust billing.
In Billing and plans > Spending limits, check if your spending limit is set to $0. If so, increase it to a small amount (like $5 or $10). This lets you keep using Codespaces beyond the free tier by paying for extra usage. Also, make sure the option “Stop usage when budget limit is reached” is unchecked if you want uninterrupted access.
Make sure your payment info is up to date and valid. Sometimes expired cards cause billing errors.
Delete any unused Codespaces or prebuild caches to free up storage space.
If you prefer not to add a payment method, you’ll need to wait until your free usage resets at the start of the next billing cycle. If you’ve checked all these and still see the message despite having free credits or a valid payment method, try contacting GitHub Support for help. |
