This might be difficult to test on Windows today, but on MacOS, iTerm2 and SwiftTerm both have support for Sixel graphics as well as iTerm2-styled graphics.

While drivers like curses could not support it, it would be possible to send a direct escape sequence and then the image contents, details on what needs to be sent is here:

This could be used both for the charting controls, but also for an image view.

What about allowing escape sequences, maybe something like this

I do not think that this should be exposed.

This should be a driver-level feature, that the driver can use or not, on their own, without exposing what might later be difficult to emulate in other environments.

So instead, the driver could expose "DoesSupportImages" property that returns an enum { None, Sixel, iTermStyle } and based on that, do whatever it needs to do to get the data out.

This will likely not work with curses as is, it will need to be a secondary step after "refresh", or would need its own dedicated driver. Come to think of it, it will need a dedicated driver on Unix, and I do not like that :-(

Latest Preview release of Windows Terminal seems to support sixels too:
