Python application fails to write to stdout and stderr when started within a runlevel (exit code 120 with buffered output, ext code 1 with unbuffered output)

I have a python oneshot application that I run with a stacked runlevel:

command="/usr/bin/python"
command_args="-u /usr/local/bin/myapp"
command_background=true
output_log="/var/log/output.log"
error_log="/var/log/output.err"

However, that does not work. The logs are never created. The application fails writing to stdout/stderr and errors out.

My workaround:

command="/bin/sh"
command_args="-c "exec /usr/bin/python -u /usr/local/bin/myapp | logger""

Which works alright, but I would be interested in a reliable and clean solution (as clean as it gets anyway...).

I am starting the discussion since I am honestly curious what the reason for the inability to write is. If I start the openrc script manually after boot, without any modification, it works. Unfortunately the stdout and stderr is then emitted on the console, not in the configured logfiles either. Permissions are fully open.

I am only diving into Alpine and OpenRC currently, so excuse the possible lack of basic knowledge about the two.
